Our Heritage
The history, architecture and soul of a Kandyan colonial bungalow
The Story
Welcome to Colonial Residence Kandy, a distinctive heritage boutique bungalow in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
Set in Katugastota, just outside the centre of Kandy, our historic residence combines colonial character with modern comfort. Its original architecture — high ceilings, polished floors, timber doors and shaded verandas — has been carefully preserved, while tropical gardens and a serene swimming pool create a peaceful setting for individually designed rooms, suites and a spacious two-bedroom apartment.
With its historic architecture, relaxed atmosphere and convenient location for exploring Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, Colonial Residence Kandy offers couples, families and travellers a more personal Kandy experience — and a memorable alternative to a conventional city hotel.
With warm regards, the Family & Team

Every corner whispers of a bygone era — polished floors that have known a hundred monsoons, and verandas that still catch the evening breeze from the hills.
Constructed in the colonial style with a red clay-tile roof, deep verandas and timber fretwork, set within a tropical garden above Kandy.
The bungalow becomes a beloved family residence — a place of gatherings, festivals and afternoon tea on the lawn.
Original floors, doors and windows are carefully restored by local craftsmen, and antiques are gathered to furnish every room.
Colonial Residence Kandy opens as an intimate heritage stay — a century of stories, now shared with travellers from around the world.

Shaded sit-outs with rattan armchairs, lantern-lit tables and potted palms, opening straight onto the tropical garden.

Deep, timber-beamed verandas lined with slender white columns and planter's chairs — made for slow mornings and cool evening breezes.

Pillared porches, clay-tiled roofs and lantern-lit garden paths give the bungalow its gentle, timeless glow after dusk.

High timber-beamed ceilings and polished cement floors keep the rooms naturally cool through the tropical day.

Four-poster beds, planter's chairs, teak armoires and vintage prints — each piece chosen to tell part of the story.

Set among palms and tropical greenery, the residence looks out across the green hills of Katugastota.

Kandyan Culture
Kandy was the seat of the island's last kings and remains its cultural heart. Stay with us to experience Kandyan dance, the drums of the Temple of the Tooth at dusk, and — each July or August — the spectacular Esala Perahera, when elephants and dancers fill the streets.
